Tailoring the plasmonic properties of gold-liposome nanohybrids as a potential powerful tool for light-mediated therapies

A fast and environmentally-friendly methodology has been developed by in situ synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on thermosensitive liposomes different phase-states, obtaining nanohybrids with controllable tunable plasmon modes within the visible/near-infrared region. Lipid phase, charge temperature influence final arrangement AuNPs, so when is performed zwitterionic fluid discrete AuNPs peaks visible region are obtained, while gel phase tend to aggregate forming nanoclusters, leading bands gradually shifted infrared as decreases. The formed retain physical properties (fluidity, degree hydration, cooperativity) maintaining transition mild-hyperthermia range, preserving their light-to-heat conversion properties. Therefore, these can be considered excellent candidates versatile photothermal agents controlled drug delivery capacity, being powerful tools for light-mediated therapies.
